Back in the Day …

The year was 1990 and eyebrows were pencil-thin, matt lipstick was on everyone’s lips and the enduring trend of Brazilian waxing was about to become huge, with a whole lot of help from a young and enthusiastic beauty therapist called Leah Ingram.

Despite being just a few years out of beauty school, Leah recognised the need for women to access wonderfully pampering, highly effective, results-driven beauty care and treatments without having to spend a fortune, or needing to book appointments weeks in advance.

So, she rented a room in the back of a hair salon in Hurstville’s Westfield Mall and offered clients a leg and bikini wax plus mini-facial treatment package for just $20. And so, the original ‘Leah’s Waxworks’ was born.

During these treatments, Leah encouraged her clients to “take just a little bit more off,” sparking a waxing revolution that to this day remains one of the most popular treatments across all of her salons – the Brazilian.

Within a week, clients were queuing around the corner and Leah was making a big buzz in beauty circles. Women would frequently travel from as far away as the Sydney CBD for a lunch hour wax and facial, as she earned the reputation of being fast, efficient, cost-effective and super fun to be around.

Management at Westfield couldn’t help but notice the demand she was creating – not to mention the extra shoppers Leah was bringing to the Mall, so they offered her a space of her own, incentivising the deal with a generous fit out. Before long, Leah’s waxworks salons were springing up right across Sydney, in locations including Bondi Junction, Miranda, Eastgardens, Parramatta, Burwood and the Mid-City centre.

These days, Leah employs 50 highly trained and experienced staff, all specialists in waxing, laser hair removal, facials and all aspects of beauty therapy and each one devoted to making sure you experience the very best in beauty with every visit.
